About the Port of Felixstowe

The Port of Felixstowe is the largest and busiest container port in the United Kingdom, handling approximately 48% of all UK containerised trade. Located on the Suffolk coast at the mouth of the River Orwell, the port is ideally positioned for ships travelling between Europe and the world's major trade routes.

The port operates nine deep-water berths capable of accommodating the world's largest container vessels, including ultra-large container ships with capacities exceeding 20,000 TEUs. It is ranked 43rd in the world and 8th in Europe by container throughput.

The docks first opened in 1886, following the initial construction of the dock basin in 1882. The port has grown continuously since then, and today it is owned and operated by Hutchison Ports, one of the world's leading port operators.

The Port of Felixstowe is the nearest British port to Europoort and Rotterdam, making it a critical gateway for UK trade with continental Europe and beyond. It is also a major employer in the region, supporting thousands of jobs in Felixstowe and the wider Suffolk economy.
